Building a Brighter Future for Harris County

Meet Richie

I am a candidate for Harris County Commission, District 4. I am an independent Small Business owner who is used to working with tight budgets and making tough decisions. I believe in transparency in all levels of government, with our most local government being at the top of the list. As our county begins to look at where we want to be over the course of the next decade, I want to help ensure that we are the place our kids and grandkids want to live, work, play, and pray. We live in an incredible community and I believe that our best days are ahead of us.

I am married to my amazing wife, Fran. We have five children and ten grandchildren. We are members of Morningside Baptist Church in Columbus and reside in Cataula. I am looking forward to sharing more ideas and hearing yours in the days and weeks ahead.

I want to work to improve Harris County's infrastructure. I will work to insure a sustainable future with clear economic, social, and environmental benefits. I will focus on closing the “digital divide” that exists between rural and urban areas when it comes to broadband access in our county. I understand that broadband access is necessary to provide a better quality of life for all citizens in students and business owners. Additionally, planning for the upgrade of our water and sewage system is paramount for economic development and smart growth.

In order for Harris County to remain an educational leader in our region, we must continue to work towards the highest standard of education. I will work with local and state leadership to help develop the opportunities needed to equip students with the education and skills that are vital to the enhancement of industries within our state today, and the ones that our state is looking to attract in the near future. If we want the next generation to choose to stay here at home, we must attract industry to our county and grow jobs. And in order to attract industry, we must have a workforce that is ready to go to work. Together, we can accomplish this goal!

I will work to support and encourage job growth in Harris County, as well as, innovation, skills training, and business development. I will support initiatives that work to develop strong relationships between community stakeholders and elected officials who are tasked with creating new job opportunities.

I want to focus on developing integrated approaches to economic development by working with business leaders, the Chamber of Commerce and local leadership to develop methods for creating a highly skilled workforce that are products of our local school system.
